J.Mac Scaffolding

All Bar One, Edinburgh

All Bar One is a popular and trendy bar based on the busy George Street of Edinburgh City Centre. The bar reached out to us in early 2019, asking us to quote on a challenging and exciting project.

We were asked to provide access and a safe working platform for Stone Technical Services LTD who had been tasked to remove, repair and replace stone balustrade on the bar’s balcony. However, the client requested disruption of day to day running’s be kept to a minimum. Meaning we needed to design a scaffold which didn’t touch the floor, and we could only have access to the building during their closing hours (after midnight and before 9am).

From the initial site survey, we knew this project would take some careful planning and preparation. We instructed two of our trusted scaffolding engineer contacts, Craig & Matthew, to advise us with the methodology of works so this coincided with the production of engineering designs and calculations.

Next, looking at logistics, we had to make full use of our fleet to ensure we had enough materials available to keep up with programming. Our drop body vehicles were ideal for this situation, as they were able to deliver materials without restricting any other operational activities.

This was high profile job in the centre of one of the busiest streets in Edinburgh. The scaffold was a specialised job that needed 100% input from all our experienced scaffolders and staff, the whole JMAC team are proud of the outcome of this project for a number of reasons:

1. The job was completed with zero incidents/accidents.
2. Full access was maintained to all bar one during business hours.
3. The job was completed within budget.
4. Every step possible was made to preserve the fabric of the building as far as reasonably practicable.

“in my 22 years’ experience of scaffolding, this was one of the most interesting and rewarding jobs so far. Setting out the job using the shear ties was the most challenging but crucial part of the scaffold stability. It was great working alongside such an experienced team, during the erection and dismantle phases, James McCarthy, James Boland, Lee Donaldson, Sam Lawton, Nicky Finn and Danny Brogden even Luis McCarthy the MD was on site, all playing a key part. The whole of the JMAC team pulled together to complete this job and the result was a brilliant success.” Aaron Kitson, Scaffold Supervisor.
